My name is Claudia Wagner and I am working at JOANNEUM RESEARCH Austria, Graz. I am also a PhD student at Graz University of Technology.
In my PhD research I am working on acquiring knowledge from social media streams (such as Twitter or Facebook streams). I focus on a special type of social media streams namely textual user generated message streams.
I am especially interested in exploring to what extend semantics emerge from socio-technological systems and which intrinsic factors (e.g., characteristics and composition of users participating in the creation of content) and extrinsic factors (e.g., knowledge acquisition methods, semantic enrichment strategies) may influence emerging semantics.
The aim of my PhD research is first to empirically analyze the relation between emerging semantics in social media streams and social factors which may influence them. Based on my empirical results I will secondly develop a new knowledge acquisition method which will simultaneously analyzes messages’ content as well as the directed social network in which the content is shared. Third, I will evaluate if and to what extend a social knowledge acquisition method can outperform traditional text-based knowledge acquisition methods which do not take the social dimension into account.
The general motivation behind my research is to explore the role of social context for semantically analyzing user generated content. I am supervised by Markus Strohmaier and Klaus Tochtermann.
